The International Joint Conference on Mechanics, Design Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (JCM 2018) originates as the 9th Joint Conference of INGEGRAF (Asociación Española de Ingeniería Gráfica), ADM (Associazione Nazionale Disegno e Metodi dell’Ingegneria Industriale) and S-mart (Systems, Manufacturing, Academics, Resources, Technologies).
The conference will be focused on the latest advances in Design and Manufacturing Methods and Tools in Engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautics, Civil, Industrial, etc.) and Architecture, with regard to:
- Geometric Modelling and Industrial Process Design
- Augmented and virtual reality for product and process design
- Smart Production Systems and Advanced Manufacturing Technologies
- Engineering methods in Medicine
- Innovative Product Development and Design Methods
- Innovation in Building Information Modelling and Architecture
- Education, learning and knowledge
We are pleased to invite all researchers, engineers and students to participate. The contributions will be selected for oral session or poster session.
Authors will be invited to submit extended abstracts, which will be peer reviewed for relevance to the conference topics.
Full papers will be peer reviewed for acceptance with the essential corrections and proposed for oral presentation or poster session.
All the accepted papers will be published on Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering, a book edited by Springer and indexed in SCOPUS.
Selected papers will be also invited to be submitted to several journals indexed in JCR (Thomson Reuters):
- Symmetry (ISSN: 2073-8994, IF-JCR: 1.457): Confirmed

The conference will take place in the millenary city of Cartagena, a city with more than 3,000 years of history and that has been the scene of some of the most outstanding passages throughout time. This Punic, Roman, military and art nouveau city offers nowadays so many things to see and do that it has become one of the most appealing destinations in the Mediterranean area.
Inaugural speech of JCM 2018 opening ceremony
University Chancellor, authorities, dear colleagues, ladies and gentlemen.
It is a great honour for me to have the opportunity to participate in this opening ceremony of the 9th International Joint Conference on Mechanics, Design Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing, which will take place within the next three days in Cartagena.
As you will see, our three millenary city, Cartagena, is an excellent host and it is also an incomparable scenario for hosting events of this nature, and I am sure you will greatly enjoy your stay here. Therefore, welcome to Cartagena.
First of all, I want to thank all the associations, ADM, S-MART and INGEGRAF for having made this Conference possible at our University. Undoubtedly, this initiative that comes from Graphic Expression Department, would have been more difficult to be held without UPCT, Campus Mare Nostrum and Seneca Foundation support.
It has been a definitive impulse, the support received from companies such as Repsol, Dassault, Huertas Group, Hidrogea, Azud Systems or Himoinsa, or institutions such as Cartagena Council or the Regional Government, who have responded with enthusiasm, have sponsored the Conference and have collaborated in the organisation and whose contribution has been crucial. I would like to thank all of them for their growing support.
Likewise, I want to thank Professors Gadow, Martin and Pyzak for their altruistic participation in the plenary sessions.
I want to express my acknowledgment to all the Schools of Enginnering of our University for their help for the conference.
It could be a clichè, but I want to express my special thanks to the scientific committee members, whose accuracy, care and diligence to the paper selection have been a commendable effort. And, obviously to the members of the organizing committee, who in the last months have worked with dedication and tenacity for many hours. All of them have made possible for us to be here today.
As you know, It is our interest to go to lines of cutting edge, in additions to those consolidated in previous editions and we believe the topics that have finally established respond faithfully to that interest.
Finally, I want to thank all the attendants in advance, for sharing their research, because in this way our knowledge will be broadened enabling us to advance.
As Professor Oliveri said in Catania, conference success is measured by attendance. I hope this can become true in Cartagena too.
Welcome all and enjoy!
Francisco J. Fernández Cañavate
President of JCM2018 Conference
